Using a Command Line Getting Started Guide 127 Using a Command Line You can access a command line in KDE to enter commands directly instead of using the KDE graphical menus and icons. When you work at a command line, you must know how to use the commands needed to accomplish tasks you want to perform. Some of the more useful command line utilities are listed in the various section of Chapter 12. Different commands are explained for the tasks covered in each section. To start a command line window, use any one of these methods: Choose Utilities|Terminal from the main menu. Choose the Terminal Emulator button on the Panel. Within another terminal emulator window, enter the command kvt &. If you want to execute a single command within KDE, you can also use the pop- up command line window. To enter a single command: 1. Press Alt+F2. A command window appears. 2. Type the command that you want to execute and press Enter. The window disappears and the command is executed. To close a terminal emulator window, enter the exit command.
